Thinking Positively

Never underestimate the power of positive thinking. Thinking positive thoughts has been proven to change your perspective, lift your mood, and allow you to become a better problem solver. Aside from these benefits, thinking positively also trains your brain to see the better side of life, rather than the negatives.

Being positive doesn’t mean turning a blind eye to reality- sometimes our reality is genuinely stinky. However, thinking positively can give you an edge because it allows you to see the future outcome of your challenges in the present day.

Habits like meditation and journaling can help you start to cultivate awareness about the positives in your life. Additionally, the power of positive thinking can also help you:

  • Reduces stress
  • Improves your health
  • Increases confidence
  • Extends your life
  • Makes you happier
  • Allows you to make better decisions

You can also begin to think positively by writing down some of the negative thoughts you have during your day. Take these thoughts and think about them- how can you turn them into a positive? What is the benefit of that negative comment, situation, or person?

Rather than say you aren’t ready, think of it as a learning opportunity. Instead of thinking, ‘it’ll never work,’ give yourself the benefit of the doubt and trust that you have the skills to pull it off.

You can practice noticing when you frame certain situations negatively versus positively. Try to use positive language with yourself and with other people. Use words that promote strength, confidence, and success, rather than words that will tear you or others down. Visualize the best possible outcome and work to make that happen.

It takes time, but it is possible to train your brain to be more positive. Practice awareness and mindfulness throughout your day. Cultivate happiness and be present in the moments, both positive and negative. The more aware you are of your life and the people around you, the better you can begin to live a more positive life.

Life is more than just a daily routine. There is joy and happiness to be found in every moment.
